German Stampede Wrestling's (GSW) 10th anniversary event "TEN" this past Saturday drew closer to its end, a bombshell was dropped on the fans: The wXw Europe GmbH, the company behind
Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw), takes over the commercial operation of GSW!
GSW hadn't staged an event since January of this year and rumor had it that the organisation would ultimately close its gates after the aforementioned show on Saturday.
“Without GSW, a top player would be missing from European wrestling and the only serious Sports Entertainment organisation would be missing from the German scene. Without the Wagonhalle in Marburg, one of the best venues and audiences would be gone” says
Tassilo Jung of wXw.
As the wXw representative continues to explain the reasons leading to the decision:
“Of course we could have suggested to simply stage wXw events in Marburg and it would have been a smart solution to expand the brand wXw. But we share the opinion that GSW fans want to see GSW and that the wrestling circuit profits from variety and alternatives”, concerns and doubts began to surface among some fans.
But Jung counters:
“We don’t want a watered down GSW and we don’t want a second wXw product either. We certainly don’t want to use GSW as an organisation for talent development. We want GSW to have the quality it had until 2009 and this past Saturday. Ingo Vollenberg (former owner of GSW) will have full creative control.”
