Made in Italy #2 – News and rumours from the Italian wrestling scene!

ICW vs 2PW: It’s not over until it’s all over! - On November 6th 2PW (Pure Pro Wrestling) officially ceased to exist but some of its finest wrestlers are keeping the “purist” flag flying as part of the ICW (Italian Championship Wrestling) roster. On January, ICW General Manager Pitbull decided to welcome some 2PW representatives (Alex Flash, Rafael, Tempesta, Ronin, Orfeo Orfei, Killer Mask and Ivan Stojanov) in ICW in order to give them the chance to win back the 2PW Middleweight and Heavyweight Titles before unifying the belts with the ICW Lightweight and Inter-regional Championships. Alex Flash and Rafael fulfilled the dream at “ICW La Notte dei Campioni” defeating former champs Mr Excellent (aka Emilio Excellente in UK’s WAW and HEW) and Nicholas Edward Wave to become respectively the new 2PW Middleweight and Heavyweight Champion. The titles’ unification will probaly see Alex Flash wrestling current ICW Lightweight Champion Corvo Bianco (who won the belt defeating Psycho Mike at “ICW L’attacco sull’Adda”) and Rafael facing ICW Inter-regional Champ OGM.

Regarding the ICW Italian Title: The belt is still around the waist of Red Devil who defeated 2PW’s Tempesta in a first time ever “Icon vs Icon” bout. I Ricercati are still the ICW Tag Team Champs following a shocking turn heel at “ICW Vae Victis”. Charlie Kid & Doblone will wrestle next March 24th in Germany for CWN and the same day Queen Maya will defend her RQW European Title against Norway’s Miss Mina at a WAW show in England.

TCW out of the dark - Total Combat Wrestling is a local promotion born five years ago and based in Varese. Recently it has come out of the dark as it’s achieving new and important success. First of all TCW has a brand new regular location for its show: the Dardodromo. Then their roster is increasing in size as some established wrestlers are joining it: Caronte (formerly ICW, NWE and 2PW), Bako (formerly IWS), Makoto (formerly IWS and Japanese star), Bulldozer (formerly ICW, XIW, FCW..), Violent Joe (formerly 2PW), Johnny Puttini (formerly ICW manager) and Il Drago (formerly ICW) are only a few names of the new entries in the TCW roster. The main news is, however, the launch of a web series called “Bersaglio Wrestling” on RadioLunaTV.

RWA strikes again! – Rome Wrestling Academy keeps on shocking the Italian wrestling scene beyond all expectations. At the end of 2011 some RWA wrestlers took part in a popular film by Ficarra and Picone (two Italian comedians). Then, after the successful experience of the EPW tapings in December, RWA has gone back to activity with some very interesting shows: on March 4th RWA held a wrestling show in Fiumicino (Rome) as part of a popular national TV show “Quelli che il calcio”. Five days later RWA promoted a show in Ostia (Rome) recorded and shown in live streaming worldwide. During this event Vito Rea defeated RWA Champion ‘The King’ Danza to win the title.
A new show is now set for March 24th in Ostia and ‘Sky Sport’ TV production will be there to shoot the event. In other news, a RWA contingent will also be part of a short film called “Tiger Boy” and directed by Gabriele Mainetti. The trailer of the film – a tribute to the worlds of wrestling and manga – can be seen at this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRBBpF96S6o.

EPW: Europeans do it better! - Last December RWA founder Pier Paolo Pollina launched a side project, called European Pro Wrestling. From December 11th to December 13th, Stazione Birra in Rome hosted three days of European wrestling, featuring a top Italian squad from RWA alongside six of the best wrestlers in Europe, like Austria’s Chris ‘The Bambikiller’ Raaber, Germany’s Bad Bones, Absolute Andy and the Alpha Female, Portugal’s own Shanna and UK’s Greg Burridge.
All three shows have been recorded in order to be featured in a 12-episodes Series on a TV channel yet to be announced. Each episode will be twenty-five minutes long and the last two episodes will feature “Overload Deluxe”, a special event where all the storylines will come to an end but leaving open issues to be solved in the following seasons.
All three events, as the fan reports suggest, have been top-notch in terms of live production and in-ring quality as you can see in this recap and build-up video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj8tNXzn4qk

NWE back with a bang! - On February 18th Nu-Wrestling Evolution returned to Italy after a long period of absence promoting the third edition of the “Wrestling Gala” at Teatro La Serre in Turin. The show was a great success as it was sold out already in presale. Some of the best European wrestlers were involved: Lion Kid and Mark Andrews fought each other in an amazing Ladder Match; T-Bone and Stixx were involved in an Hardcore Match and a special Tournament was set to crown the first contender to the NWE Heavyweight Championship. Leroy Kincaide defeated ‘King’ Danza, Marty Scurll and emerged as the winner of a special Battle Royal for the chance to fight for the gold at the NWE/IPW:UK “Revolution” event in London.
Also, the Hardcore bout saw the unexpected appearance of some guys from TV’s popular program “Le iene”: right in the middle of the match, TV personality Angelo Duro jumped on the ring improvising his song accompanied by an unlikely dance. Stixx and T-Bone noticed his presence and threw him out of the ring with firm kindness. The skit has been shown lately in primetime on “Le Iene” TV Show.
After this successful event, NWE announced a new date in Italy scheduled for October at Le Serre Theatre of Grugliasco, Turin.
